The Villains

Illustration Final Year Project

Since I was young , I really curious about villains in fairytales. I usually think why are they being bad and what causes them to do evil. Besides , I wonder do they have another side of the story , which was different from what we usually see.

Using this as starting point , I created backstories for the villains and revealed the hidden side of the story from their perspectives.

My project is based on the fairytales by Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Andersen. They are different from the fairy tales we see nowadays. In my project, I focused on six villains which are Evil Queen (from Snow White) , Stepmother  (from Cinderella) , Ursula (from The Little Mermaid) , Maleficent (from Sleeping Beauty), Candy Witch (from Hansel and Gretel) and Big Bad Wolf (from Little Red Riding Hood) .

For the villains , I created diary-like zines to show their true feelings, intentions, wishes and experiences. Each zine focused on one villain and I documented their thoughts by using colour pencil to make it look more like a “ scrapbook ” . Six of the zine pack in a hand sew vinyl and package it like a fresh-baked food to showcasing this project is a brand new product that totally illustrated by me.

With this piece, I knew the client I was collaborating with wanted something that would leave a lasting impression with the audience, and the end result did just that.

CANDLE HOLDER

Stepsister's leg

In the story , there was this scene where the stepsister’s toe was forced out of the shoe as it didn’t fit her.

Uses this as inspiration , I created a sculpture which showcased this scenerio and to illustrate the fact that the

two stepsisters not the real Cinderella .

For this piece of work , the crystal will shine when the candle lighten up , it represents the happiness when they

fit in the shoe. When the candle melted , the crystal won’t shine again , it represents their future become dark

when their legs bleeding.
